Wayne Lawrence, a St. Kitts-born and Brooklyn-based visual artist, immerses himself in the documentary tradition to illuminate the intricacies of the human experience. His work navigates the realms of community, purpose, and the intricate relationship between humanity and our natural and adopted environments.
Prestel Publishing released his debut monograph, "Orchard Beach: The Bronx Riviera," in October 2013. Accompanied by exhibitions at the Bronx Museum of Art and The FLAG Art Foundation, the book delves into the multifaceted tapestry of life in the Bronx.
Lawrence is currently immersed in the creation of his second book, "Black Blood," where he delves into the vibrant traditions of J’ouvert carnival in the Eastern Caribbean. This upcoming project promises to be a captivating exploration of cultural celebrations, illustrating the profound impact of these traditions on the human narrative.
